The Sewer Sleuths

Few realize that an enormous labyrinths of large diameter sewer pipes lie beneath city streets and buildings. As developers renovate, demolish and construct large urban buildings, there's a real danger that these vital underground sewers could be damaged. Although the sewers are large, they can be difficult to locate.

Curb Inlets can Improve Service and Reduce Cost

RVA, in collaboration with the University of Ottawa, undertook laboratory testing of the City of Ottawa's curb inlets for storm drainage, and provided some suggestions for drainage design using the new inlets. The new curb inlets are lees intrusive for roadway operations, cyclists, etc, but have less capacity than conventional grated inlets located in the gutter. The City has incorporated the new inlets into its design guidelines, and is moving to develop new and more efficient designs for these inlets.

Water Treatment Plants are Vital to Baghdad's Restoration

Baghdad built in 763 A.D. is now 30 X 30 km with a population of more than 5 million. Several Water Treatment Plants are drawing water from Tigris River are serving Baghdad. A 1365 MLD Water Supply Scheme was built in the 1980s and a 1820 MLD water supply scheme was delayed because of wars and shortage of budget. Baghdad Water Authority is now willing to go forward with the development and rehabilitation of the water supply of Baghdad.
