In response to a Boil Water Advisory, R.V. Anderson Associates Limited was retained by OCWA to quickly address the issue. The solution was to have a 5000m³/d Interim Water Treatment Plant built at Walkerton’s one remaining well field. R.V. Anderson Associates Limited provided design, contract administration and inspection services for the plant, which was commissioned in just 7 weeks following the start of design.
The treatment process includes a modular membrane ultrafiltration system capable of producing water quality with a turbidity of less than 0.1 NTU, and with 6 log removal of Cryptosporidium Oocysts and Giardia Cysts.
Disinfection with chlorine is achieved in a 45 m³ polyethylene baffled chlorine contact tank downstream of the filtration system, and an existing 350 mm diameter water main within the well field. A highlift pumping station, upgraded SCADA facilities and a waste management system round out the facilities.
