Ottawa Zone 2C Elevated Water Storage Tank
OTTAWA ZONE 2C
ELEVATED WATER STORAGE TANK
client: City of Ottawa
location: City of Ottawa
project description:
R.V. Anderson Associates Limited was retained to design a new elevated storage tank to replace a small multi-legged steel elevated storage tank (circa 1950) and to provide the pressure Zone 2C with additional fire, equalization and emergency storage.
The new 50 m high composite design structure has a capacity of 9,000 m³ with a 30.5 m diameter steel reservoir sitting on a 16.8 m diameter pedestal. The pedestal is situated on a pile footing, incorporating 104 – 18 m long concrete filled steel piles passing through overburden and bearing on bedrock. The location of the tank required the installation of 750 m of 600 mm concrete pressure pipe and a 750 m access road, and security fencing. Due to the size of the elevated tank the inlet and outlet were designed to provide mixing and reduce potential dead zones in the tank. The tank is equipped with a SCADA system that is tied into the pressure zone’s control pumping station, along with state-of-the-art safety equipment.
R.V. Anderson Associates Limited was retained to undertake the environmental assessment, preliminary design and detailed design, and provided contract administration and site supervision during construction of the tank, one of the largest in Canada
project status:
Project was completed at a cost of $3.27 million.
