Lambton Water Treatment Plant Residuals Management System
LAMBTON WATER TREATMENT PLANT
RESIDUALS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
client: Ontario Clean Water Agency
location: Sarnia, Ontario
project description:
R.V. Anderson Associates Limited undertook the design of the facilities to treat the residuals produced at the Lambton Water Treatment Plant that is being operated by OCWA under the authority of the Lambton Area Water Supply System. The project was undertaken as part of the Ontario Government’s mandate to no longer permit the water treatment plant backwash residuals to be discharged to watercourses without receiving solids removal treatment and residual chlorine removal.
Facilities added to the Lambton WTP, with rated capacity of 182,000 m³/d, consist of a 1320 m³ buried concrete tank for backwash flow equalization. The equalization tank is complete with submersible mixers, to keep the residuals in suspension, and submersible pumps to pump the contents to two water clarification units (ballasted flocculation (‘Actiflo’) treatment system). Removed solids are thickened in a circular sludge thickener prior to being discharged to a 152 m³ sludge holding tank. Ancillary systems include a polymer feed facility as well as a sodium bisulfite system, to dechlorinate the treated effluent.
R.V. Anderson Associates Limited services included preparation of a pre-design report, design, tendering and contract administration during construction.
project status:
Cconstruction cost is estimated at approximately $3,638,000.
