LAKESHORE EAST CORRIDOR PLANNING STUDY
client: GO Transit
location: GO Transit Lakeshore East Corridor from Union Station to Eglinton Station (17.3 km)
project description:
R.V. Anderson Associates Limited (RVA) was retained by GO Transit to undertake a planning study to analyze the various options to increase the track capacity to cope with the projected increase in ridership demands. Work included an analysis of the current ridership and the projected ridership, an operational analysis to determine the number of trains that can be added if an additional track is implemented and the preliminary assessment of the natural and social environmental impacts and the noise and vibration impacts due to the additional track. A preliminary review of the corridor was undertaken to evaluate the feasibility of implementing trackage on the north or south side of the corridor, the ease of implementation, the use of existing bridge and trackage infrastructure and its implications to the existing utilities and underground services. A preliminary construction cost estimate including grading, drainage, utilities, property, station improvements, structural improvements, parking lots, track work and signal plant for each alternative was undertaken and a planning study report was prepared to document the findings and recommendations.
