Eglinton Avenue Road Reconstruction
EGLINTON AVENUE ROAD RECONSTRUCTION
client: City of Mississauga
location: Mississauga, Ontario
project description:
R.V. Anderson Associates Limited (RVA) provided Class EA, design, contract administration and inspection services for the complete reconstruction and widening of Eglinton Avenue from 4 lanes to a 7-lane arterial road. The project extended for a distance of 2 km from west of Dixie Road to Etobicoke Creek, and included the improvement of three major intersections. The City is planning, in the future, to convert the curb lanes to High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes.
Construction staging was developed to maintain four lanes of traffic at all times, along this high volume arterial road. The project also included utility relocation, property acquisition, design of street lighting, upgrading of traffic signals at two major intersections and design of a new signalized intersection for a high density commercial development. Two of the intersections required the design of double left turn lanes to accommodate the high volume of turning movements.
project status:
The project was fast-tracked being designed and constructed in 1 year. The construction cost was $5 million.
