client: City of Toronto Works and Emergency Services
location: Toronto, Ontario
project description:
R.V. Anderson Associates Limited (RVA) was retained by the City of Toronto to assess the condition of the original bridge structure constructed in 1954, to provide pedestrian access over Moore Park Ravine. The original three-span structure had a total length of 92 m and a 1.5 m wide deck. Due to the extensive deterioration that had taken place, RVA Limited recommended that the structure be replaced. RVA recommended that a prefabricated steel bridge structure with 3.0 metre wide deck supported by new piers and the original abutments would be the most cost-effective solution. A cast-in-place concrete deck protected by waterproofing membrane and asphalt topping was chosen to provide the greatest resistance to the application of de-icing salts during the winter season. RVA undertook the detail design, preparation of contract documents and provided contract administration and field review services during construction.
