R.V. Anderson Associates Limited (RVA) provided the structural investigation and preliminary design of the structural repair / reconstruction for the Heart Lake Road trunk storm sewer tunnel that conveys storm water under the Highway 401 / Highway 403 interchange in Mississauga. Work included the engineering survey, environmental study, foundation investigation, hydrologic and hydraulic study, and the structural inspection of the 1.68 km of tunnel with inside diameter ranging from 2.74 m to 3.05 m. An engineering analysis was undertaken, based on the results of the field investigations and laboratory test results to determine the cause of the deterioration. Alternative rehabilitation and reconstruction solutions were developed and evaluated. The best rehabilitation / reconstruction solution was recommended based on an evaluation of the ease of construction access, impacts on traffic, hydrologic / hydraulic of the tunnel and the environment, potential hazards during construction and construction cost. A preliminary design report was prepared to document the findings and recommendations. |
