client: Ball Packaging Products Canada Inc.
location: Simcoe, Ontario
project description: R.V. Anderson Associates Limited (RVA) managed the decommissioning and remediation of this former can-making facility in preparation for the redevelopment of the site. The property, a 2.1 hectare site in the centre of the Town, was strongly suspected to be impacted by lead primarily as a result of over 60 years of soldering operations. RVA's Phase I property investigation and Phase II soil and groundwater investigation confirmed that lead in the soil was the primary impact of historical industrial operations. This required the excavation and disposal of approximately 765 tonnes of soil in accordance with Ontario Regulation 347. In addition, particulate lead was removed from the roof of the plant and an underground storage tank was removed. Confirmatory soil testing was conducted upon completion of the work.
project status: The property is under development for residential and commercial use. |
