project description: R.V. Anderson Associates Limited was retained by the City of Toronto to undertake Pre-Design and Detailed Design, services for the construction of Winterization and Summerization components at the Island Filtration Plant, the overall plant capacity is rated at 410,000 m³/d.
The plant will now move from summer to year-round operation. The scope of work includes upgrades for protection of the plant facilities from cold temperatures (winterization) and warm temperatures (summarization) to stabilize water temperature fluctuations within the plant operating envelope, in order to meet the year-round Enwave Deep Lake Water Cooling project water temperature requirements. The scope of work also includes provision of a stand-by power supply; upgrade of the plant operating and staff facilities; additional maintenance and storage facilities; improvements, repairs, and a thermal upgrade to the existing plant structures; and expansion of the existing fluoride building.
