"With a ceremony to officially recognize the recent $5.7 million upgrades to the A.L. Dafoe Purification Plant on Friday, the Town of Greater Napanee celebrated its efforts to provide clean water — and put forth an argument to continue offering that service to residents.
The recent upgrades allow the town to thicken the waste separated from the purification process, and pump it through the sanitary sewer system, rather than pumping wastes back out into Napanee River. As a result, the water pumped out of the system is cleaner, with less of an effect on the river. The design... allows for an increase of capacity at the plant in future years without changing the footprint of the actual building. One third of the cost was funded by the province.
Greater Napanee Utilities chairman Peter Veltheer said the upgrades are an example of the commission’s commitment to protecting source water and in providing the clean, quality drinking water that customers expects." |
