to its Board of Directors

Harold McColm, manager of RVA's transportation group has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Ontario Public Works Association for a two year term. The Association promotes excellence and public awareness of public works through education, advocacy, and the exchange of knowledge. Harold is looking forward to contributing with his input towards buildings OPWA's mandate as the "Voice of Public Works" in Ontario.
Announcing RVA's LEED® Accredited Professionals
May 2005
Mark Hagesteijn, P.Eng., Associate, Urban Development Project Manager, and Laurie Ford, P.Eng., Associate, Sustainability Practice Leader, are RVA's newest LEED® Accredited Professionals, having successfully completed the Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED® ) Accreditation Exam in May 2005.
The LEED® certification process is a tool used to promote environmentally sustainable building practices. LEED® certified buildings have met a standard of energy efficiency and environmental considerations, in five key areas: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, and Indoor Environmental Quality. Upon review of the design, the Canada Green Building Council will award the design an official LEED® rating of Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum, based on the points received in each of the key areas.

Water Environment Association of Ontario (WEAO) elects a new Vice President
May 2005
Vincent Nazareth, manager of RVA's wastewater group was elected Vice President of WEAO at the Association's 34th Annual Conference held at the Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville this April. Vincent has been involved with committee work for the WEAO since 1993, and has been a Director since February 2004. Vincent will serve as Vice President until the April 2006 conference, when he will take over as President for a one-year term.

Appointment of Patricia Johnson as Associate and Senior Environmental Consultant

Trish has over 22 years of experience in environmental strategies, policy and program development for all levels of government, environmental assessments and private sector partnerships. Her background includes program management, communications, research, strategic planning and policy analysis. Prior to joining RVA, she was responsible for City of Ottawa waste diversion programs and landfill operations.
OPWA - Public Works Project of the Year Award

RVA is proud to be the recipient of this Ontario Public Works Association award for our work on the Sutton Water Pollution Control Plant, for the Regional Municipality of York.
South Asian Tsunami Relief Donation
January 2005
RVA announced this week that the firm has expanded its yearly donation to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) by an additional $10,000 for their Indian Ocean Earthquake Appeal. UNICEF is endorsed by the Government of Canada, and is on the ground in all of the tsunami-affected countries. Their focus is to provide first aid and medical supplies, safe water equipment, shelter and emergency food to the areas that were hardest hit.

Hydro-Com Technologies has become a division of R.V. Anderson Associates Limited in January 2005. Located in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Hydro-Com Technologies specializes in hydrotechnical engineering and infrastructure assessments. Their technical expertise and capabilities will make a solid contribution to RVA's growth and presence in Eastern Canada.
