R.V. Anderson Associates Limited Wins Two 2011 Project of the Year Awards from Ontario Public Works Association

Toronto, ON (January 2012) — R.V. Anderson Associates Limited wins two 2011 Project of the Year Awards from the Ontario Public Works Association (OPWA).

The first award goes to the City of Hamilton’s Woodward Water Treatment Plant Restoration Project in the “environment, greater than $10 million” category. This $25 million project involved replacing the plant’s superstructure around existing processes while maintaining operations during construction.

Key features included implementing complex construction sequencing to allow the plant to continuously meet its water demands; meeting the Federal Infrastructure Stimulus Fund deadline; maintaining and restoring the original "Art Moderne" architectural style; and implementing safety measures to protect the City's water system operators, who were onsite at all times.

The second award is for Metrolinx’s Appleby GO Station Accessibility Improvements Project in the “transportation, greater than $10 million” category. This $19 million improvements project included a new pedestrian tunnel constructed beneath active CN Rail tracks and barrier-free access improvements. Project challenges associated with keeping the station open during construction—such as maintaining train operations and mitigating risks to pedestrians—were successfully addressed to result in on-time project delivery and construction savings of $300,000.

“We are pleased to have our firm again recognized for its innovation in sustainable infrastructure development,” says Ken Morrison, President of R.V. Anderson Associates Limited. “We appreciate the industry’s continued recognition of our quality of work.”

R.V. Anderson has been the recipient of seven OPWA Project of the Year Awards since 2006.
