The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has selected R.V. Anderson Associates Limited (RVA) in a consortium with Mott MacDonald Ltd. of the UK and India, and PHE Consultants of Mumbai, for the Mumbai Sewage Disposal Project – Phase II, a $21 million CDN consulting contract to design and construct priority improvements to the city’s wastewater system, which serves a population of more than 12 million people. This represents one of the largest wastewater design and construction projects in India. The selection was announced during the January 2007 Ontario Trade Mission to India led by Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.
Over the last 12 years, Toronto-based environmental consultant RVA has completed several major urban infrastructure assignments in India, including Operation & Maintenance Upgrading for Mumbai's wastewater infrastructure and the development of a 25 year Master Plan for Mumbai's Wastewater Systems (also with Mott MacDonald and PHE Consultants), which provided the foundation for the current $350 million (CDN) construction project.
In 2002, the Canada-India Business Council (C-IBC) recognized RVA for its success in India with the first annual Canada-India Business Partnership Award, presented to Canadian firms that have been developing new business opportunities in India. The award was announced in Mumbai (Bombay), India, during the 2002 Canada Trade Mission to India, led by former Minister for International Trade, the Hon. Pierre Pettigrew. C-IBC Chairman and former Minister for International Trade, the Hon. Roy MacLaren P.C., presented the award.
These successful contracts demonstrate RVA’s technical and managerial capabilities in the urban infrastructure sector and its ability to create successful partnerships with local Indian firms to assist Indian municipal agencies in meeting their service and environmental obligations. With the support of the Canadian and Ontario Trade Commissioners in India, RVA hopes to continue to develop its successful business presence in India that began in 1994.
